My online journal of my amazingly boring life. Don't expect anything juicy. I write those in my real journal at home safe away from prying eyes. Except for maybe my sister.
Yay!!! My lilies are starting to bloom! The first one is an Asiatic variety called 'Lollipop'. Very pretty. I see a lot of blooms coming and I'm waiting in anticipation. I can't wait to take pictures of them! The purple clusters of flowers is actually an Allium. I wish I planted more of these. They'd look more dramatic in a cluster. I think the yellow flower is also a variety of allium. What sort of flowers are blooming in your garden?
So today I spent most of the day cleaning up my aquarium and rescaping it. I had pulled out all the plants yesterday and today I put some back in. The way I have it now, the fish can actually swim around instead of being choked in the plants. The water is still cloudy from the substrate shifting. I also added a layer of Fluval Plant substrate over the old EcoComplete gravel. Now there is a visible slope from back to front. It'll take a while for the plants to grow back in. I've gotten rid of a LOT. Basically the whole 40 gallons was chock full of plants. I removed some of the rocks and wood so that the middle would be more open. I plan to go back to schooling fish - maybe a variety of tetras so that means the Kribs have to go! Kribensis are very interesting fish to watch and they breed like rabbits but it's a problem since I never know what to do with the young!Unfortunately I have to work this long weekend so it's actually a short weekend. T_T But it's such a nice day I couldn't resist going outside and looking at the flowers. So pretty! Those yellow ones are the Dasystemon Tarda Tulips not the white ones I was talking about last time. Magnolia flowers are blooming!
I really want to buy a macro lens so that I can take super up close photos of my flowers!
Elsewhere in the city, several varieties of Cherry blossoms are in full bloom and so are the Magnolias! The one in my garden is a 'Betty' and it tends to bloom a little later than regular magnolias. I really can't wait! I love cherry blossoms so much. Maybe next year I should purchase a tree! The problem becomes the size of my garden though. LOL I love spring!
Edit: I was wrong! It'll be an early spring! How did that happen?!
I'm betting that it'll be six more weeks of winter seeing that the cold air that is lingering around Vancouver doesn't seem to want to go away! I'm so cold in the morning that I don't want to get out of bed!
It's not preventing my flowers from starting to bloom though! Yay! Last year I planted a whole bunch of bulbs in the front yard. This spring should turn out to be very colourful. I am eagerly awaiting the spring! Snowdrops are blooming in the garden for a few weeks now and I see that daffodils are starting to come out of the ground! Some of my lilies are also starting to poke out of the soil. I'm so excited! I think I will buy some more snowdrops though. One here and one there doesn't give a lot of impact. I want clumps of snowdrops! When the weather is warmer I'll have to plant my "rescue" plants as well. They are the ones that I bought for a dollar or less at Canadian Tire when the planting season was over. Hahah I know I shouldn't have bought plants to try to revive but it was so inexpensive and I had a coupon for $5 off so it wasn't that much. I'll have to start weeding too. Those pesky weeds are coming back in again!
